Best Wedding DJ!    posted 9/14/2013
DJ Pat was the best vendor I hired for my wedding and I highly recommend him. Not only does he do an awesome job with the music, but he even acted as a coordinator. He timed the ceremony music and instructed our wedding party, coordinated with my family and photographers to make sure all were present for every big moment, and was flexible with our music choices. He showed me different versions of songs I had picked (guitar version, instrumental, etc) that I ended up liking better and using. The thing I liked the most was how often he updated me on what big moments were coming up, your wedding day goes by so fast and it was extremely helpful to have someone give you warnings such as “cake cutting in ten minutes”. He kept the wedding day schedule moving and everyone on the dance floor. During the planning he was quick to respond to emails, flexible with times, and has an awesome client login page where you can manage all your music. DJ Pat is so much more then just a wedding DJ, my day would not have gone as smoothly without him.

Sarah & Eric's Mt Woodson Castle Wedding

Here are some pictures from Sarah and Eric's wedding at Mt Woodson Castle September 20th 2013. It was a beautiful night at one of my favorite venue to work at here in San Diego. Working with Iman from Personal Touch Catering / Mt Woodson Castle and Sean Capshaw from Resolusean Photography was awesome as always! Its always nice when I get the chance to work with people that have the same philosophy as I do when it comes to giving the clients the BEST we have to offer.

We Are A Green Company

Back in 2010 Sound Prodigy officially became a "green company". What does that mean you ask? Basically cutting down the amount of supplies that not only I use but the client does as well. First how we started was using rechargeable batteries instead of the throw away kind. Thus reducing the amount of batteries we throw away by 90%. We also use less paper too. Because all our clients information is online we only have to print a day of itinerary as a back up source incase we loose internet.

Our contracts are also eSignture witch means we never have to print out another set for contracts for myself and the clients to sign. They can be saved online in a word document and stored in a digital format. Because of this we are happy to say that we have gone from using anywhere from 5 and 6 reams of paper to less that 1 ream per calendar year. This number only applies to office paperwork and my personal paper /battery usage for performance. When you add in the paperwork for our other DJ's (4) this number jumps a lot higher. This paper savings also applies to the client not having to print paper as well for an even greater reduction.

In to what we do use is properly recycled and nit simply thrown away with the rest of the garbage. We strive to be efficient in every way we can. The less we use equals less demand and less production witch is better all around. As a small company it may not seem like much but when you add the just a few dozen small companies doing this convergence it does make a difference.

100 Review Club

So happy and excited to be in the 100 review club. What this basically means is that over the last 3 years I have been publically asking my clients to donate some time to write a review of my performance after the fact. This helps me a great deal because this is how future clients gage how I do things and builds a strong foundation of trust with the client and myself.

Lets face it, this day is so important to people that they really want to be sure they are getting the quality of a professional DJ, Wedding Specialist and lighting designer. And not just a good sales pitch and cheap price. In reading past reviews you will notice that I really take the time and cater to the needs of every client and make them feel that I value the quality and flow of their wedding just as much as I do.

Now at this point I do have (date of this posting) I have 126 weddings recorded however, I have sent about a lot more request that I get reviews backs. Some clients that just feel like the wedding is over so they don't need to involve themselves in it and that’s fine. This blog and recognition goes out to all the awesome people that have taken the time to write that review and give me the continued success that I hold today.

THANK YOU ALL!!!!!! Love DJ Pat

No You Tube Music

When it comes to location music for your wedding ceremony or special reception song your wanting by a particular artist I cannot stress enough to NOT use YouTube as a source for music research and here are the reasons why. First off, sometime you might find a song that you like but in some cases either the artist or song title is mislabeled and not accurate. Then you try to locate the song through Amazon Or Itunes and you can't find it. This happens quite a bit.

Now why do I try to located the MP3 or WAV through Amazon and Itunes and not playing the track from You Tube? I never run the risk of streaming audio for ANY formality song or dance. Even if the signal is strong you never know. The transfer could still buffer at any time. Plus the audio quality is horrible. Now it may sound ok coming out of your laptop speakers at home but through a professional sound system it will sound horrible. The reason for the is when audio is loaded onto You Tube the compression of the file has to be low to maximize space on the You Tube server. Literally the music will sound like is coming out of a crappy AM radio.

Please remember that as your DJ I want your event to go as sooth as possible and also sound amazing.

San Diego DJ Association

I am proud to say that I am a member of the San Diego DJ association or SDDJA for short. Now what is the SDDJA? Its an organization of professional DJ's that are committed to a higher level of standards and quality of service we provide to our clients. Created in 1990 it’s the mission of this organization to...

"The San Diego Disc Jockey Association was formed to raise the level of professionalism and to establish performance and ethical standards in the Mobile Disc Jockey industry. Since its inception, SDDJA DJs and MCs throughout San Diego County have continued to exceed their clients' expectations. When you choose a San Diego Disc Jockey Association DJ/MC for your wedding or special event, you can be certain you are hiring a reliable, experienced performer with the highest ethical commitment to making your event a tremendous success."

Now I had been to meetings in the past and I know people within the organization but I never thought of joining. But I didn't want to for all the wrong reasons. I felt that I already upheld a high level of standards and didn't need to be apart of the group because I didn't feel that I need to prove I knew that I was professional with a moniker. But it was one awesome conversation I had with not only the president of the organization but a very respected DJ here in San Diego (Jerry Beck of Beck's Entertainment) that changed my thoughts about the process and why it would be a positive in my becoming part of the group. .

However, being a member is not that easy. I was not only interviewed, screened and observed during one of my performances but also voted (approval) in by senior members of the organization. The process took several weeks but I did eventually get the call and I was ecstatic.

I must say it feels pretty good being a member of the elite in our industry. I have also made some new friends and have even opened up myself to more knowledge and experience of other members that love what they do as much as I do. Today is a good day!  :)  DJ Pat

Its been a while since my last blog so I figured I would take tonight and do a little blogging to start 2013 late...  but I have started again. This one has to do with a wedding at Admiral Baker Clubhouse http://www.sdbg.com/admiralbaker.php
located here in Sunny San Diego. I must say its amazingly rewarding when I have clients like these two. When I first Angelica and Josh I thought they were a wonderful couple. After our first meeting I hoped they would book and they did. Everything from the planning to the day of was awesome. They had such wonderful idea and such a creative attitude you don't see from too many couple.

From emotional to funny they presented ideas for a ceremony that in my opinion rivals none I have seen before it and I don’t believe I will see again. Its so nice when I can have a client wrap their arms around me and say.. THANK YOU.... THANK YOU! I also have a big shout out to the photographers at True Photography for the awesome shot! http://truephotography.com/

I am so glad I was able to get this picture to remember such a loving couple! I have to say for sure in my top 10 of clients that I will always remember! Congratulations to you both and I will never forget you!

Cheers, DJ Pat

The Importance Of Having A Great Wedding Emcee, By Kelly Schmid

Hello, my name is Kelly Schmid. I am a professional wedding planner here is San Diego. I cannot even begin to express the importance of a great wedding Emcee (aka “MC”)! 99% of the time your Emcee will also be your DJ. When hiring a DJ for your wedding, hiring someone that speaks eloquently and hosts a great party is just as important as hiring someone that mixes great music and reads a crowd’s taste. I have worked several weddings with “club” DJ’s, or DJ’s that are a friend of a friend, someone they found on Craigslist, etc. Once all of the formalities are out of the way, they do a fantastic job at mixing music, but it’s often one type of music…the type of music we hear out at the bars or at a club in Las Vegas.
This would be fine if a wedding was a crowd of 150 people between the ages of 18-25. But, a wedding is made up of parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, small children, co-workers and many other types of people. It is so imperative that your MC/DJ can speak in a way that appeals to all of these ages and personalities. It is so easy for me to tell when a DJ has mastered his or her verbiage in a way that flows effortlessly and seamlessly with your wedding, rather than someone who is reading off a script in a monotone, robotic way in an effort to not mess up something they have done maybe once or twice.
Your MC/DJ is essentially your host for the evening and can really make guests feel excited and at ease, or awkwardly uncomfortable. Just think, he or she will be getting on the microphone to announce the following at the very minimum:

-Grand Entrance
-First Dance
-Introducing and welcoming people for toasts
-Inviting guests onto the dance floor
-Cake Cutting
-Bouquet Toss
-Garter Toss
And, it is so important that your MC/DJ works well with all the vendors on the day of your wedding. As a wedding planner myself, I need to be able to coordinate with the DJ/MC and have them follow my lead on the timeline and any last minute changes. I personally love DJ Pat and his team from Sound Prodigy because they are fun, outgoing, and confident, yet still so professional. And, don’t even get me started how they can mix fun oldies with more current beats that appeal to every single person at the reception!
I hope this article helps put into perspective when you hire a DJ to ensure you are also hiring an even better MC for your reception!

Oingo Boingo

Clearly one of my favorite bands growing up was Oingo Boingo. It all started early 80's when a friend of mine (Ronnie Elliott) brought some records over to my house to listen to then. I had just got a MONSTER of a new turntable, receiver and speakers for my bday when he came over to break it in with me. Even though he had a stack of records I went for 3 of them right away. They were called Only A Lad, Nothing To Fear and Good For Your Soul. Just from the artwork on the records I was drawn to them quick and when I heard " Grey Matter" I was hooked. Its hard to explain but for me the music sounded just like the albums looked. Also because I was an artist at the time it totally inspired me to make some Oingo Boingo creations. I was really good at pen and ink and using that medium created some black and white creations from the music that I loved to listed to.

Not only did these guys create amazing music but all the art concepts they created on the albums, posters, shirts and so on was very inspiring that they had so much creativity within the organization. I also became addicted to seeing them perform live as well. From SDSU to Irvine Meadows, The Greek Theatre and so on. Or at least a far as my mom would let me go because she was overprotective of me.  While writing this blog I am also listing to Boing as a trip down memory lane. Then I decided to list my favorite Boingo songs. However, with so many in the bands catalog I told myself to come up with 10 favorite songs. In no particular order here they are..

1 - Grey Matter

2 - Dead Man's Party

3 - Flesh N Blood

4 - Wild Sex

5 - Ain't This The Life

6 - Who Do You Want To Be

7 - Home Again

8 - Skin

9 - Good For Your Soul

Smile emoticon10 - Something Isn't Right (Bachelor Party Sndtrk)
